Edu Feast ala carte?

February 3rd, 2008 by crino-line

Restaurant
There are always 2 types of serving methods in the restaurant:
Ala carte - meals according to a list where each dish has its own price.
Table dhote - Complete set of meals served at a fixed price.

Undeniably, customers satisfaction is crucial in the business world, notably the food industry. A banquet certainly needs sufficient repast, perhaps repertoire of performances.
Credit much on luxuries, being knocked down by rivalries;
Credit less on luxuries, couldn’t complement the quality.

However, settings differentiate the former and the latter.

Below refers to an event 1 year ago:

The food are almost the same, the chef never changed, Ala carte and Table dhote, replica? Yes, it sounds.
The former gave no credence to the customers, so do I think they never grew. Being hypnotized in the world of fairy tales, mushrooms-like houses made of sweets. Indeed, that’s how we should be in the past centuries. All I know, is fantasy never made history.
Are they still living in their rhapsodies?

Back to reality, if knowledge were to be in the serving menu, which one you’d probably be indulged in?
Ala carte - knowledge is everywhere, ranging from a piece of petal to the multi-billion skycrappers.
Table dhote - Knowledge came by package, so-called syllabus, we pay to eat what we have chosen.

I would say, investment. Just like Ala-carte. Thanks to Denny, Warren Buffet once said " Victory is the accumulation of previous defects. No man never falls down but as time travels, the deeper he will fall.

Taking account into this matter, there’s this great advice from Warren Buffet, "Don’t possess a credit card, save and invest a lot for your own self." For the time being, he keeps reminding his subordinates that:
1. Take good care of the company
2. Don’t forget the rule no.1.

Sequel **********************************
Thanks to darling, the greatest teacher in our lives is actually our own selves, of course, teachers and parents play a major role in nurturing our mind.We shouldn’t blame our fate for who we are. As an instance, Thomas Edison never grumble despite his thousands failures and finally he did it.
Knowledge is vast so does the education.

Books
Is knowledge Ala-carte? or Table dhote?
Kingly make an order and they shall serve you as you wish.

Globe Most of the time, we coulld only see comet once in our lifetime, there’s no gonna be the second chance. Cuz life is short and somebody just doesn’t worth your second chance. Let bygones be bygones and live yourself to the fullest. Be what you are.

As popular saying of Santa indeed should distribute love, sometimes wealth can’t represent happiness and it’s a fact that everyone can be the Santa.

If GOD gave me something special, then HE must have taken something equivalent with the one HE gave me. That’s why nobody’s perfect in this world.

This world isn’t fair and square. Otherwise, the globe wouldn’t turn by it’s own axis. Cuz it isn’t a sphere anymore.

Be what we are.

Gentleman

荷包爆满, 浑身自满;

Chapter III @ my life - Rendezvous

December 19th, 2007 by crino-line

P6300242232_edited

YES, I am back.
After surpassing much merciless STPM, finally I could retain my blogging time. In spite of all terrible plights, I did write some blog entries and now I’ll post it subsequently even though some facts are really out-dated.

Anyway, for this new chapter, I’ll include some of my daily experiences rather than long-winded poetry of life which some may find it complicated and tedious.
Yeah, I’m trying to post entries in terms of "reader friendly".

P630022822a_edited
Also; "enlightenment" I should say, was what I really learned for 2 years in this Pre-U form 6 courses. Notwithstanding numerous stress and predicament which greatly "endorsed" by the so-called highest authority, it triggered my mind a lot to think in a different perspectives.

Supposedly, the General Paper had long been hailed as a pointless subject but how on earth are we going to neglect it as it does really contributes towards one’s maturity on the path to success? From there, we were inculcated about laws and orders; yet red tape as well as embezzlement ( if we were to broaden our views about the world )……..

Slowly , we have become more and more sensitive about the news on papers which we find it boring in the olden days. The enthusiasm about politics, economy, academic and social kept burning from time to time regardless of tight schedule each day. Hence, please do remember; it’s not a waste for that particular 2 years you were in form 6, it’s worth it to serve as a source of your continual blooming mentality.

P63002212
To clarify, "success" has always been marketed as luxurious, aristocratic life with money galore, there’s no doubt people are chasing for it although being financially-free is the only necessity for each and everyone to look forward to strive.  What’s exactly the story behind every strive? It’s about helping the others. We strive to aid more needy people, to help bringing up this world to a better tomorrow.

Besides, endurance is also being stressed much in the learning of form 6. By understanding the concepts, it is still doesn’t cater for writing a remarkable practical report. Much you may dislike, endurance is practiced everyday such that the mighty syllabus is being squeezed piecemeal into the tiny mind for 1.5 year. That’s how endurance was came about. "Thanks" to the "Magnificent Training" provided by Education Authority.

In short, there are 2 things visible in the life of form 6, to be deformed the physique and to reform the mental barricade. Determination as a consequence of deterioration. We learned from what we fought for, we learned from what we’re deprived of and we learned about the very truth that the poetic justice does not prevail in this haphazard society.

Be strong, to all 6th formers, Happy Graduation and may Rendezvous of hearts still intact after centuries. Unity makes the eternity strength. One fine day, we gonna swim through this long stream to the estuary of "dream comes true".

Take Care !~

In accordance with our theme, we actually had some other events like the book club, where we share facts about life from a book that’s chosen by the speaker, Thanks to LingWei,for giving such a wonderful talk.

Pict0076Pict0095Pict0129Pict0128

Apart from that, we also have some talks by outsiders….mainly concerning the facts of life.

This is the article from Yahoo News recently; it seems that our society has been infected with cyber bacteria long ago……..

Video game addiction: A new diagnosis?

June 21, 2007 02:58:00 PM PST

The telltale signs are ominous: teens holing up in their rooms, ignoring friends, family, even food and a shower, while grades plummet and belligerence soars. The culprit isn’t alcohol or drugs. It’s video games, which for certain kids can be as powerfully addictive as heroin, some doctors contend.

A leading council of the nation’s largest doctors’ group wants to have this behavior officially classified as a psychiatric disorder, to raise awareness and enable sufferers to get insurance coverage for treatment.

In a report prepared for the American Medical Association’s annual policy meeting starting Saturday in Chicago, the council asks the group to lobby for the disorder to be included in a widely used mental illness manual created and published by the American Psychiatric Association. AMA delegates could vote on the proposal as early as Monday.

It likely won’t happen without heated debate. Video game makers scoff at the notion that their products can cause a psychiatric disorder. Even some mental health experts say labeling the habit a formal addiction is going too far.

Dr. James Scully, the psychiatric association’s medical director, said the group will seriously consider the AMA report in the long process of revising the diagnostic manual. The current manual was published in 1994; the next edition is to be completed in 2012.

Up to 90 percent of American youngsters play video games and as many as 15 percent of them — more than 5 million kids — may be addicted, according to data cited in the AMA council’s report.

Joyce Protopapas of Frisco, Texas, said her 17-year-old son, Michael, was a video addict. Over nearly two years, video and Internet games transformed him from an outgoing, academically gifted teen into a reclusive manipulator who flunked two 10th grade classes and spent several hours day and night playing a popular online video game called World of Warcraft.

"My father was an alcoholic … and I saw exactly the same thing" in Michael, Protopapas said. "We battled him until October of last year," she said. "We went to therapists, we tried taking the game away.

"He would threaten us physically. He would curse and call us every name imaginable," she said. "It was as if he was possessed."

When she suggested to therapists that Michael had a video game addiction, "nobody was familiar with it," she said. "They all pooh-poohed it."

Last fall, the family found a therapist who "told us he was addicted, period." They sent Michael to a therapeutic boarding school, where he has spent the past six months — at a cost of $5,000 monthly that insurance won’t cover, his mother said.

A support group called On-Line Gamers Anonymous has numerous postings on its Web site from gamers seeking help. Liz Woolley, of Harrisburg, Pa., created the site after her 21-year-old son fatally shot himself in 2001 while playing an online game she says destroyed his life.

In a February posting, a 13-year-old identified only as Ian told of playing video games for nearly 12 hours straight, said he felt suicidal and wondered if he was addicted.

"I think i need help," the boy said.

Postings also come from adults, mostly men, who say video game addiction cost them jobs, family lives and self-esteem.

According to the report prepared by the AMA’s Council on Science and Public Health, based on a review of scientific literature, "dependence-like behaviors are more likely in children who start playing video games at younger ages."

Overuse most often occurs with online role-playing games involving multiple players, the report says. Blizzard Entertainment’s teen-rated, monster-killing World of Warcraft is among the most popular. A company spokesman declined to comment on whether the games can cause addiction.

A woman in the New Haven, Conn., area who bought the game for her 15-year-old son last year, says he got hooked on it.

"Now that I look back on it, it’s like I went out and bought him his first Jack Daniel’s," said the 49-year-old woman who didn’t want her name used to spare her son from ridicule.

Dr. Martin Wasserman, a pediatrician who heads the Maryland State Medical Society, said the AMA proposal will help raise awareness and called it "the right thing to do."

But Michael Gallagher, president of the Entertainment Software Association, said the trade group sides with psychiatrists "who agree that this so-called ‘video-game addiction’ is not a mental disorder."

"The American Medical Association is making premature conclusions without the benefit of complete and thorough data," Gallagher said.

Dr. Karen Pierce, a psychiatrist at Chicago’s Children’s Memorial Hospital, said she sees at least two children a week who play video games excessively.

"I saw somebody this week who hasn’t been to bed, hasn’t showered … because of video games," she said. "He is really a mess."

She said she treats it like any addiction and creating a separate diagnosis is unnecessary.

Dr. Michael Brody, head of a TV and media committee at the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, agreed. He praised the AMA council for bringing attention to the problem, but said excessive video-game playing could be a symptom for other things, such as depression or social anxieties that already have their own diagnoses.

"You could make lots of behavioral things into addictions. Why stop at video gaming?" Brody asked. Why not Blackberries, cell phones, or other irritating habits, he said.

Hopefully there’s remedy before it becomes incorrigible illness.

Phone Call From The Past

June 9th, 2007 by crino-line

Mystified, wonder if any one of us ever received phone calls made by ourselves from the past?

That midnight, it was raining cat and dogs…..one who woke up in the middle of the night could heard the non-stop rumbling of thunder, splashing sound of torrential rain and the abrupt, discontinuous rhythmic of ligthning was visible at the far distance.

Just Imagine that. You could experience this forces of nature in Tropical county like Malaysia. And yet the strong wind’s blowing as if it’s whining, we could hardly walk around without blanket, it’s shivering cold.

Anyhow, an enigma happened. I was sound asleep. Suddenly, the loudest thunder struck in the rainy-reddish sky, woke me up from my sweet dream. That wasn’t an ordinary thunder strike. I believe some of you all know that it happened in penang last month, whereby it resulted in some electricity cut-out, phone lines jamming and worst of all, flood.

It happened in my house too. I was in the dazing state when i heard my house phone keep on ringing. It’s freaking like somebody was calling me in the middle of dark, rainy night…..about 3.30am. Coincidently enough, i didn’t managed to pick up the phone. It had stopped after half quarter of minute. Logically, i thought it was just a technical hitch. Many people would think like that too.

But……what if we consider it in a different perspective? Perhaps it’s just my rhapsody. Well, the next day i checked the phone-calls-detecting device, i found out that the call last night was dated year "2003" and yeah, all the dates in my device was changed to year "2003" too. Oddly enough, i had this technical errors for so many times but it appears that whenever there is errors, the system will automatically switched back to year "2000", as a default setting. Never it would appeared other years.

Now i am insane to think that : What if it was a phone call made by myself in the year "2003"? Perhaps i want to remind myself about something in future?……

Let’s see this according to a theory made by a Japanese Professor of Physics. ( Actually i heard this theory from my friend) But, it is similar to the theory suggested by Stephen Hawkings,in his book "The Universe In A Nutshell". Well, here goes the theory:

Actually, our life is divided into millions of time piece. This means what I do now and what I do next second is completely independent of time. It’s not time that determines what I will do the next second, it’s my mind and atmosphere that determines the next. This sound logical right? Let’s deem "what I do now" is X and "what I do next" is Y and X and Y both takes up probability in a Binomial Distrubution. Say, the probability that i eat cake now is 0.003 and the probability that i drop the spoon on the floor next second is 0.010 and the probability that i do not drop anything onto the floor the next second is 0.40.

Then, try imagine that each the probability is independent, means they do not relate to each other and they are depicted as straight vertical parellel lines for every variables. They called it Discrete Probability. Therefore what I do now and what I do next second is a series of action matching the X and Y continuously. This means there is chance that I drop the spoon onto the floor, but the possibility is quite small. Some called it "luck", that determines wether i will jump to this probability.

Allright, same theory applies to our dreams. Everybody dreams. Sometimes you dream that you go into a fantasy world, chatting with robots or maybe you are the dictator, ruling the country or maybe you dream that you are dating with your dream partner. Maybe it’s real, i mean the academic world in dreams which is not practical. There are trillions of probability in the universe, where we do not know. Perhaps the world of chatting with robots, being dictator and date with nice partners are in other side of universe and we are only connected to it when we dreams. And the probability that we dream robots tonight or people tonight is based on the Discrete Probability that we mentioned earlier. Jumping from one to one. That’s why we can’t feel the pain even if we dream that we are being hit by bullets. It just simply because it is just our mind that intersects with the probability lines, not our body.

Sometimes we have 6th sense. This is due to the intersect of different world by probabilities. Let say "I will turn right at that corner". This is happening in Universe. The time is running. And in reality I m still walking towards the junction, haven’t make any decision to turn. But suddenly, in my mind, I have a flash of scene where I will turn right. And it is not yet happens. Theorically, this is due to the intersect of my world (reality) with the world of next second of me (somewhere in another plane of universe). That’s why i will have 6th sense. The Professor mentioned that the intersect normally just a few milisecond,  and we can’t really catch a clear picture of that.

When we consider about this, If "me in 2003" is X and "me in 2007" is Y, and both of them are travelling in a linear vertical lines of probability and coincidently, the striking of lighting was too massive to cause the two probability X and Y to intersect, resulted in the phone calls. Maybe it was a bright evening 3pm in 2003 at the same day I was trying to call somebody and somehow the lightning struck and intersect the lines such that I was calling myself in the Midnight 3am at the same day, i.e., I am calling myself. And it lasts only a quarter minute, the lines disconnected after the resilience of electric energy which is not massive enough to join the 2 events.

Afterall, it’s unfortunate that I didn’t manage to pick up the phone. Who knows what I will tell myself? The world is fair, we won’t get to know anyhow. Or else it will be a mess. The strongest weapons to destroy nations.

Materialism  Equality_1Male_and_femaleEquality

*********************************************************

其实, 这是我两年前在报章上读到的一篇短文, 加上人情事故的模范之感想;

时风日下, 男女平等乃社会不离的倡促, 女性受了世世代代的轻藐, 是时候展现本生具有的实力;

曾几何时, 一些人还是无法了解男女平等的概念, 抵认为女性实力有限, 处处实行暴力的反对, 无理的歧视;
